Lopburi in the old days was a minor city under Ayutthaya. Once King Rama Thibodee the First had established the Ayutthaya, his son Prince Rameuan was sent to rule Lopburi in 1350. In the reign of King Narai the Great, Ayutthaya was considered to near to the sea easily for an attack by foreign fleets and then Lopburi was founded the second capital.
Lopburi possesses many more historical sights when you may stop by before skirting Highway no. 3017 towards Pattana Nikom to view the beauty of the fields of sunflowers that fully bloom in November – January each year. A drive to visit Pasak Cholasith Dam nearby is also possible.
Tourists may choose to drive or take a special route train to view the beauty of Lopburi’s attractions by Highway number 3017 (Lopburi to Koke Toom) towards Amphoe Pattana Nikom with Tung Dok Tantawan, the fields of sunflowers that magnificently bloom on both sides in November to January each year. About 43 kilometers from the city through the sunflower fields, you may stop by at Khoen Pasak Cholasith, a clay-cored earthen dam with the third largest capacity after Khoen Sri Nararin and Khoen Bhumipol, and enjoy the sights as well as activities inside such as taking a rickshaw to view the dam ridge, the floating train, the antiques as old as 100 years in the Lumnam Pasak Musuem, or taking a horse carriage to view the dam’s landscape, go fishing and feeding the fishes.
Then drive to Amphoe Baan Mee, about 60 kilometers away from Khoen Pasak, to see the process in making Mudmee clothes, the Lopburi’s famous products. Before buying some as souvenirs. If time allows, go back to the bridge at the entrance to Khoen Pasak and wait to see the beauty of the sun setting down the lake to end the one-day trip completely. |
