Pattaya and The Walking Street

Pattaya Pattaya is one of the best-known beaches of Thailand. Its fame comes from the beauty of nature, full facilities and services for tourists, and fun from all kinds of sea activities.

In fact, the story of this small beach in Chonburi started since Vietnam War in 1961. at that time American troops were sent in to support the army, some of the soldiers, in their leisure time, come to relax and find pleasure at this beach. From this pouring in of dollars, the small, insignificant community of Pattaya turned itself to be a famous and prosperous tourist attraction that is known to the world.

Although the war has ended for decades, Pattaya is still a wonderful place for vacation for tourists of all ages. The beach of Pattaya stretches totally 3 kilometers long, divided into 3 parts, Nort Pattaya (Pattaya Neu), Middle Pattaya (Pattaya Klang) and South Pattaya (Pattaya Tai). Each part offers different atmosphere, so you can choose to visit them as you please.

North Pattaya, the Enchanting Serenity

It is the quietest beach of all the three beaches of Pattaya. The gradual slope makes it a nice spot for swimming, while brow-red sand and light blue sea also looks beautiful. On the beach here you can find moderate amount of beach chairs, beach umbrellas, and food stands, whereas along the seaside road are some grand hotels, restaurants, clubs and bars.

Along the seaside road to Pattaya 2 Road is a vast entertaining complex, which will be glowing livelily every night. This road is also where you can find the grandest and most spectacular performance in Pattaya, Alcazar and Tiffany Shows, which offers glamorous and dazzling shows by lady boys.

There is a shopping mall at the intersection between North Pattaya and Middle Pattaya. Besides, North Pattaya is also the location of Pattaya Administrative Office and Tourist Police Station.

Middle Pattaya, the Perfect Blend of Beauty, Fun and Comfort
Middle Pattaya is the most popular beach for tourists. It is a beautiful brown-red sandy beach, with all kinds of facilities and accommodations. If you walk to this beach from North Pattaya, you will find the golden mermaid and dolphins which ark the start of the beach of Middle Pattaya. There are more beach chairs, more umbrellas, and most of all more tourists at this beach. This is because of various sea activities in front of the beach, such as jet-ski, banana boat, and paragliding; as well as innumerable facilities like convenient stores, grand hotels, fast-food restaurants, coffee shops, cafes, beer bars, and tour agencies, etc.

Pattaya Walking StreetMiddle Pattaya is also the location of Ripley’s Believe It or Not, which is located on the third floor of Royal Plaza. It is the museum that collects extraordinary objects from around the world, human contracted head, three-leg horse, four-eye human, for example. Moreover, on Pattaya 2 Road, there is also a beautiful temple called Wat Chai Monkol. You can visit the temple to pay respect to the Buddha image appreciate the artistic decoration, or park the car here to explore nearby attractions. The parking fee is only 20 Baht per day.

If you are staying near Pattaya, it is recommend that you make a visit to Koh Lan, a large island with white sandy beaches and emerald green sea. It is indeed a superb place to visit either as a quick trip within one day or for a longer stay. Near Koh Lan are two other islands named Koh Krok and Koh Sak. Both are very serene and have fantastic coral reefs around the islands. The coast further from Pattaya is the military area. Most of the islands in this area are prohibited for tourists, with an exception of Koh Kham. Koh Kham is a wonderful island with white fine sandy beaches and marvelous coral reefs to explore.

Chonburi really does not have only beaches and islands to offer, but also many other private attractions to fascinate all styles of its visitors. Example are the Pattaya Underwater Would, the Sanctuary of Truth, Stone Park and Crocodile Farm, the Mini Siam, Pattaya Elephant Village, Bottle Art Museum, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, Pattaya Kart Speedway, Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, Three Kingdom Theme Park, the Extravaganze Show Pattaya, and Pattaya Amusement Park.

How to get there: Pattaya is 140 kilometers away from Bangkok. You can get there easily by bus or by car, using special highway Bangkok to Chonburi or motorway. Once you are at Chonburi, drive along Sukhumvit Road to get to the three parts of Pattaya. The road along the beach is one-way street, passing Nort Pattaya, Middle Pattaya and South Pattaya respectively. But at night the road at South Pattaya will close and serve as a walking street instead.

Apart from the roads mentioned, you can also drive along Pattaya 2 Road that cuts pass entertainment area, or Khao Phrabard Road to visit the attractions on Phrabard Hill or to Haad Jomtien.

Here are options of traveling in Pattaya downtown
Taxi-bus: It goes all days, all night, and all around the downtown. From Na Kleu to Pattaya and Jomtien, wherever you want to go, just tell the driver and see if it is going. The fee is from 10 to 40 Baht. Or you can hire the whole bus to selected destinations; the fee starts from 350 Baht.

Taxi-motorcycle: Taxi-motorcycle is a very good choice if you are traveling with few persons or in rush. The fee depends on the distance.

Rental motorcycle: You can find motorcycles for rent along the street around Pattaya Beaches. The rental fee is between 200 to 700 Baht per day.

Rental car: Along the beaches various sizes and styles of cars are waiting to be rented. The fee is between 700 to 4,000 Baht per day.

Taxi: It is a car and a driver who is ready to bring you all through Pattaya and nearby attractions. The fee starts from 1,300 Baht per day.

Sightseeing in Chonburi
