Haad Toey Ngam (Haad Nawigayothin) |
 Location: Within the naval headquarter, Royal Navy Army, Sattahip.
How to get there: From Bangkok, take Sukhumvit Road until you reach the junction to Rayong. Before entering Sattahip Town, you will see the entrance to the naval headquarter on your right.
Haad Toey Ngam or Haad Nawigayothin is a 2 kilometers long sandy beach. Its clean white sandy beach is shallow and good for swimming. From the front, during the low tide, you can also walk to Koh Kai Tia (or Koh Lak Kai), which is an islet with fantastic coral reefs. Nevertheless, at present it is forbidden to get on this island due to the measure to preserve such invaluable natural resources.
On the beach are lines of pine trees, restaurant, restrooms, and tourist information office where you can contact for accommodations. Nearby is a museum that displays many objects about Navy Forces, naval arms, naval uniforms, models of naval battle settings, for example. Also located on this beach is Navy Monument, which was built as a memorial in honor of those naval officers who died for the country.
In addition, there is an event, which marks special importance to this beach. On April 19th 1966, His Majesty the King has sailed Weka, a 13-feet-sailboat from Klai Kangwon Palace at Phrachuab Khiri Khan to Haad Toey Ngam at Sattahip district. The total distance was 60 sea miles, and the journey took 17 hours. It is very significant event that highly reflects His Majesty proficiency in sailing and His sportsmanship. |
