Mae Hongson possesses Thailand's largest Tung Dok Buatong. Regarded as valueless weeds in the old days, Tung Dok Buatong today is Mae Hongson's most famous attraction. Dok Buatong is of the same family as sunflower.
The golden yellow that colors many a hill covering a vast area of over 500 rai is the nature’s beauty available for admiring only in November to December each year.
Tung Dok Buatong on top of Doi Mae U-Kor, Amphoe Khunyuam. For some tourists who are heading up north, it can be a blow of the cold breeze.In the winter around November to December, Dok Buatong is fully blooming
creating a color-contrast of yellow flowers upon the green mountain range suitable for a camping ground for tourists to experience the close-up setting of Buatong field at all times. Further from Tung Dok Buatong for about 3 kilometers stands Namtok Mae U-Kor, the tiny waterfall with only one floor but outstanding with water falling from the cliff as high as 30 meters. Namtok Mae Yuam Luang, about 500 meters away from the entrance to Doi Mae U-Kor, is a small waterfall in the embrace of rocks and a shady bamboo forest.
Once tourists make their way uphill to Doi Mae U-Kor, apart from Tung Dok Buatong as the destination, the roadside stop-over point near the village about 2 kilometers before Doi Mae U-Kor is of high hill for viewing a panoramic scenery with local vegetable and winterland flower plantations to see as a nice starter. The background hill is Doi Mae U-Kor’s Tung Dok Buatong.
Uphill onto Doi Mae U-Kor, tourists may view the scenery all over, with many a viewpoint shelter where you can see Tung Dok Buatong at 360-degree angle to serve this purpose. |
